V. R., T. B. and R. N. set off with Dad Pilato and Dad Reiter on a journey to Kearney, NE. Attending the Masonic Youth Leadership Conference for the weekend. There were motivational speakers, good messages from presenters, and a super shopping effort by the youth to benefit the Nebraska Food Bank Network covering Central and Western Nebraska. The boys and girls were divided into groups of 4 or 5 and given a shopping list of 16 items and a debit card for $57.14. They were then taken by bus to the grocery store and told to shop and get as many items as they could for the food bank without going over $57.14. Each group shopped diligently for non perishable food items and then were taken by bus to deliver the food to the food bank pantry where the advisors were waiting to sort those items. In all they contributed 3700 pounds of food to this food distribution center. What a great day for all of us. Each of us took away something special from this event. Saturday night was the dance. The boys were out numbered by the girls about 8 to 1. T. B., V. R., and R. N. were very busy enjoying the dance. All in all, the weekend was very positive in both locations and two very successful events.
Colorado Springs chapter had a very busy weekend this past week. On Saturday, T. G., J. B. and Z. S. and 5 advisors were present for the Fall Festival Yard Sale. We rented 14 booth spaces to people to sell their stuff. Sales were brisk and many happy sellers are looking forward to the next one. This yard sale is a very good fund raiser for the chapter. Forty-two people attended the Colorado Springs Chapter “Chili Cook-off” on Saturday October 11 at the Colorado Springs Shrine Club. There were 7 different chili entries for the contest. The Judges were N. G., D. B., Brittany Murphy, and J. B.. After tasting all 7 chili concoctions, the votes were tallied and the winners were announced. There were three categories- Red, Green and HOT. The winner in the HOT division was Dad Crask, Broomfield Chapter Advisor. The winner in the Green division was Mom Pilato, Colorado Springs Chapter Advisor. The winner in the Red division was Dad Reiter, Colorado Springs Chapter Advisor. The Judges also picked a Grand Champion Chili over all and that distinction went to Dad Reiter. Mom Nash and Mom Appiano made super cornbread to compliment all the chili dishes. T. B. did a great job putting together all of the event extra items to help make this a success. Thank you to Dad Nichols for manning the front door and collecting the monies and selling chocolate bars and beef sticks. Thanks to Dad Pilato and Mom Pilato for caring for and bringing the pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and taking care of the Judges. We look forward to the next great event for more social and fraternal fun together. Be sure to mark your calendars for this great event next fall. This is V. R. your Master Councilor and I think we are doing great with events and just having a great time! First off I would like to say that the bowling at Fort Carson was awesome, fun, and competitve at the same time. Also the last meeting was great, we had games and everyone was playing Star Wars and Rockband. Not to mention C. K. and Dad Hoyle playing Guitar Hero! We had lots of snacks, but by the end of the day they were all gone! Thanks to everyone who came and to those who brought games to play. The dinner/educational went great and the food was great, but we had lots of left overs. Thank you to Dad Pilato for getting the supplies for this event and Dad Reiter and Mom Reiter for being early to set up and to those who helped clean up afterward. Just thanks to everyone!! A Great Evening with Family and Friends. |
